1982: Falklands War Argentina forces invaded the British-owned Falkland Islands, a mere 8,000 miles away in the South Atlantic. A task force was quickly mobilised to reclaim the islands and in the bitter ten week war that followed, 655 Argentine and 255 British servicemen lost their lives.
