Charlton was historically a parish in the county of Kent . Located between Greenwich and Woolwich on the south bank of the Thames, it was officially part of Kent until it was incorporated into the expanding London metropolitan area in 1855, becoming part of the County of London in 1889 and the Royal Borough of Greenwich today.
