  Thomas, known as "Border Tom" worked his father's property 'Thungalire' where he became interested in the aborigines, compiling a dictionary of their language. He eventually inherited the 'Bacrami' properties and extended the family holdings acquiring 'Gnomery' and 'Wymbah' stations, some 3 million acres in Queensland and 1500 square miles of grazing land in South Australia. He was elected to Parliament four times. The small town of Hungerford on the Queenland border is named for this well-known pioneer. Historic landmark Upper Hunter Valley rural property Baerami House was passed in at auction yesterday and is now for sale privately through the marketing agents Meares & Associates, with an asking price of $4.2 million. Undoubtedly one of the historic rural properties in the Hunter Valley area Baerami House dates back to the 1830’s when it was taken up by well known pastoralist at the time, Emmanuel Hungerford. It was during the ownership of son Thomas that the two storey Baerami Homestead was built in 1875 with sandstone quarried on site and featuring magnificent red cedar joinery, together with 13 foot high ceilings throughout.
