• Notes

  Grandson of Richard Hungerford, Inchidoney Emanuel married Catherine Loane. Captain of South Cork Militia. Due to poor health he left Cork for Australia in 1827 taking with him his wife, 8 children, schoolmaster, overseer and several servants. Based in Sydney, he was the first Hungerford to settle in Australia. Captain Emanuel Hungerford HM 32nd regiment sailed to Australia in 1828 with his wife, seven sons and infant daughter in the vessel "Alexander Henry". Fellow officers had told him of the free land available from the crown. He developed 1920 acres of land at West Maitland, NSW, naming the propety "Farley" after the ancient castle in England which had been the Hungerford family seat from 1369-1686. He later acquired additional holdings "Baermi" 20,000 acres on the Goulburn River and Thungerlayer on the Barwin River.
