• Notes

  Haemoptysis is the expectoration of blood or blood-stained sputum. Haemoptysis is usually frothy, alkaline and bright red. Not surprisingly it is often a distressing symptom for the patient. It is unclear who the father of Honor's first three children are. In the parish register, Walter's father is recorded as William, a Commercial Man - but then the name of William has been crossed out. The baptism records of Frederick and Sarah record only Honor's name as a parent. No father is listed. Frederick's marriage certificate gives his father's name as 'Frederick Acland' and states that he was a Butler.
