  Geoffry Copus extract from the manorial records of Farnborough contains the following: "Court Baron with View of Frankpledge of our Lord the King held there 6 October 15 James 1 (1617) At this Court George Broke made fealty and paid for one cottage lying at Farnborough, for two years rent owing - 2s. [I think George above and George Sr. below are George Brooks b abt 1537. The rest of these reference sare probably to George b 1607. It also appears that his son William took over the property in 1673 so this might be the year George died. - ARB] Increase of the annual rent - George Brook. To this Court came the aforesaid George Brook and George Brook his son and the Lord conceded to them in consideration of a parcel of land formerly in the tenure of widow Batt deceased, and the aforesaid cottage adjoining it, at the rent of 6s. per annum for both properties, to be paid in equal portions at Michaelmas and Lady Day. Court and View held 23 Oct 1618 - to this Court came George Brooke and paid for a new tenement (de novo tenements) and ? - 6s.8d. Similar entries for the Courts held in 1619,1620,1621. The rolls thereafter until 1663 have been lost, but in the "Survey of the Manor of Farnborough, commonly called the Dutchie Court of Farnborough, parcel of the possessions of Charles Stuart late King of England in the month of July 1652 " (PRO reference E317/Kent/24) appears - Cottages within the Manor of Farnborough: George Brooke holds one cottage and garden plot built and erected upon the Common or Waste of the aforesaid Dutchie in Farnborough which he claims to hold to him and his heirs for ever by copy of Court Roll bearing date 7 October 20 James 1 [ie the Court roll of 1620 referred to above] under the rent per annum - 6s.8d. Court and View held 2 May 1663 (proceedings in English) - at the View Item George Brooke to escoure his ditch against the King's Highway in Farnborough before Michaelmas next on pain of 5d. and if it be then undone Then levy of the said George Brooke - 5d.
