  On Peter Fishbourne's marriage entry in the Carlow Presbyterian register, his father's name is given as Robert Fishbourne. To date I have found only two possible candidates for this role: one being Robert Moore Fishbourne, born in 1765 and therefore 54 years old in 1819 when Peter was born, the other his son Robert, born 1800, who later became Rev. Robert Fishbourne, and who was probably a student at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 1919, from whence he graduated in 1821. Because Peter Henry was brought up in Carlow, carried the family surname and was trained as a coach builder, probably in the family's coachbuilding workshop, I believe the evidence is strong that he is connected to the families of Robert Moore Fishbourne and William Fishbourne. His connection to the Fishbourne family coachline business continued throughout his life. One possibility is that Peter's mother was a servant in the Fishbourne household, and he was therefore brought up as part of the household and given the family name. There was no shortage of male heirs, which could have explained such action had his mother been a servant girl in Dublin seduced by the young Robert while a student at TCD. I expect we'll never know the right explanation. I have therefore attached him as a child of an unknown mother and the young Robert Fishbourne. However I have no evidence that this is so. It seems likely that Peter and his family had come to Dublin from Tullow between 1861 and 1865. The youngest child Sarah was born in Tullow in 1861 and died in Dublin in 1865. With the development of the railways coach builders had to transfer their activities and it is thought that Peter Fishbourne went to work as a coach builder at the railway yards at Inchicore in Dublin.
